Eastbourne Conservative councillors joined veterans and volunteers along Terminus Road and the Beacon last Saturday to help raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Councillors have taken part each year since 2017, speaking with the public and supporting the charity’s work for serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
Councillors Robert Smart, David Small, Jane Lamb, Kshama Shore, Nigel Goodyear, Penny di Cara and Nick Ansell joined this year’s event.
Councillor Nick Ansell said: “It has always been a privilege to join local veterans and volunteers in the town centre for the Poppy Appeal. Thanks to Allan Leith and the Royal British Legion for coordinating the campaign and helping us connect with so many people. It is important we all take the time to remember those who have served.”
Eastbourne will mark Remembrance Week with services across the town. The main Remembrance Service at the War Memorial will take place on Sunday 9th November, beginning with a parade from Terminus Road at 10.25am. Later at 3pm, a service at the Ruthless Memorial at Butts Brow will honour the crew of the American bomber that crashed above Willingdon in 1944.
On Armistice Day, Tuesday 11th November, services will be held at 11am at the War Memorial Houses in Victoria Drive, Hampden Park War Memorial and the Ascham Place Arch on Carlisle Road.
