Caroline Ansell is the Member of Parliament for Eastbourne & Willingdon.
She was born in the 70’s, the youngest of four daughters, to Scottish parents. Caroline has experience in local government and was Deputy Opposition Leader for Eastbourne Borough Council – but her professional background is in education, qualifying for school headship in 2008.
A shock diagnosis for one of her three young sons changed, she said, “the course of my life and – ultimately – brought me to Parliament.”
Caroline is passionate about people and providing opportunities for each and every person to realise their potential, play a full part in the community and enjoy life.
During the last Parliament Caroline was a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Disability, sat on the influential Environmental Audit Committee, and was the Chair of the backbench 1922 Education Committee. In March 2022, Caroline was appointed as a member of the Education Select Committee. She said: “I am proud to be given this opportunity to sit on one of the most influential select committees in parliament looking at how the Government is educating our children and all the challenges we face to recover from the pandemic in schools, colleges and social care settings, It is an important backbench role and one I hope I can bring a great deal of experience to. I look forward to meeting my fellow committee members soon.”
